![]() ![]() ![]() Students will begin to see mathematics as sensible and useful and develop a belief in diligence and one’s own efficacy. Students will experience the content through the Standards for Mathematical Practice: make sense of problems and persevere in solving them reason abstractly and quantitatively construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others model with mathematics use appropriate tools strategically and attend to precision. Other areas of content are geometry, measurement, and, statistics and probability. Each grade level will also focus on developing fluency of number facts. The expectation at the elementary level is to develop a strong understanding of number sense and operations through concrete representation, pictorial representation, strategies involving place value and properties of arithmetic, and lastly standard algorithm. For a Regents diploma, students must achieve a 65 on any math Regents exam. NYS Regents Exams are given in Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra Two/Trigonometry. The Math Department has created parent and student resource web pages to provide videos, practice problems, and “how to” guidance for math topics in the following grades/coursesĪll students in grades 3 through 8 are required to take the NYS assessment in mathematics to identify students who are not meeting the state standards and provide those students with the help they need to be on grade level. The number of topics taught at each grade level is reduced so that more time can be spent learning the concepts in more depth.
